SRI AMAN — In a season filled with hope and devotion, three parishes—Our Lady Queen of Peace in Sri Aman, St Ignatius Church in Saratok, and Holy Family Church in Betong—celebrated the First Holy Communion of their young believers. Across these communities, children came forward to receive the Eucharist for the first time, a sacred step that deepened their relationship with Christ. With a reverence that touched every heart in attendance, each Mass, presided over by Fr Henry Jimbey, became a testament to the Church’s shared faith and unity.
The journey began on 3 November, at Our Lady Queen of Peace, Sri Aman, where 30 young communicants—nurtured in faith by Cikgu Jessica Tunga—took their first steps toward a lifelong sacrament. Their anticipation was met with joy as they held candles symbolising the light of Christ, a guiding flame to lead them through life’s journey, illuminating their path with His love and grace.
The celebrations continued on 9 November, at St Ignatius Church in Saratok, where eight young souls, guided by Cikgu Desmond, embraced this significant moment. In this intimate gathering, each child received their candle—a gentle, glowing reminder that Christ would be their constant companion and guiding light in times of joy and challenge.
The following day, 10 November, Holy Family Church in Betong witnessed 18 eager young communicants taught by Cikgu Alphonsa Anthony. Joined by fellow children from St Anthony’s Church in Skrang, mentored by Cikgu Lawren, and from Lubok Antu under the guidance of Cikgu Lynno, these young Catholics stood together in faith and unity. They too received candles, holding high the light entrusted to them as new bearers of Christ’s presence in the world.
Through this profound sacrament, each child from Sri Aman, Betong, and Saratok took on the joyful responsibility to reflect Christ’s love. Fr Henry Jimbey’s presence unified these celebrations, reminding all that the love of Christ binds us as one family, regardless of where we gather.
As these children journey forward, may their light continue to shine brightly, guided by the enduring presence of Christ in their hearts.
