KENINGAU — MONDAY after Pentecost Sunday, nine members of the Archdiocesan Family Life Commission (AFLC) consisting of a priest, a religious sister and seven laity held their recollection at Nulu Gundi, Keningau from Jun 5-6.
The reflection using the chosen theme ‘You are my Beloved’ was led by retreat master, Fr Charles Chiew. The theme is in relation to the need to strengthen and affirm its members in serving families in the archdiocese.
In his opening remarks, Fr Charles impressed on the participants on how God called each and every one to Himself, and to follow in His way. In Baptism, we are chosen to be His beloved sons and daughters, in which we are to make Him known, and to love and serve Him and one another.
Three main disciplines are required to be a good servant of God: to be in communion with God, community and ministry; having intimate relationship with God and to be conscious of His will; (by) listening to his voice in silence and serenity. We would barely remain faithful in serving others unless we put our trust in God who is the source of everything.
Guided reflection session
Surrounded by nature and its serenity at Nulu Gundi, each member was given ample time for self-reflection on ‘Who am I’, ‘What do people say about me’ and ‘What I have’.
Towards the end of the recollection, members shared their personal reflection; recalling right from the beginning of their commitment in serving the Lord, the challenges, failures, perseverance, and knowing God’s presence throughout their journey.
The recollection concluded with Eucharistic celebration presided by Fr Charles and concelebrated by Fr Michael Modoit, AFLC spiritual adviser.
In his homily, members were reminded of the four words recited in the Eucharistic Prayer during consecration – take, bless, break and share – which symbolizes the phases of our faith journey in ministering. It is a life experience shared to others, leading them to know, to love and to serve God.
AFLC members once more recommitted themselves to serve families, with hope and truste in the spirit of wisdom, generosity and strength, to continue Christ’s mission to lead others to become His beloved children.
