BATU KAWA — 17 September 2024 was a day filled with blessings from the Lord as the St Mark’s Chinese-speaking community celebrated three significant occasions: the Mid-Autumn Festival, the 96th birthday of Archbishop Emeritus Peter Chung (born on 10 September, 1928), and the 70th anniversary of his priestly ordination (ordained on 26 September, 1954). Twenty-five years ago, on this same date (26 September, 1999), Archbishop Chung presided over the inauguration of St Mark’s Church. By God’s grace, our shepherd is still with us today, witnessing the growth of St Mark’s Church. We are grateful to the Lord for giving us such a good shepherd, who has faithfully guided the Chinese-speaking faithful on their spiritual journey.

The Mid-Autumn Festival, a time of family reunion under the full moon, is a day filled with love. Over 100 parishioners gathered for a dinner that evening. Just as Jesus instructed His disciples at the Last Supper, “Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me,” let us love and care for one another in the same spirit. During the evening, Archbishop Emeritus Peter Chung also received blessings from his relatives in China. Sis Nancy Kung, the Chairperson of St Mark’s Chinese-speaking community, conveyed birthday wishes on behalf of the committee, wishing Archbishop Emeritus Chung abundant blessings and joy. She also extended Mid-Autumn Festival greetings to all brothers and sisters in Christ, wishing them happiness, health, and peace.
