Thousands register for Sabah Youth Day-5

KOTA KINABALU  A total of 2,594 youths from the three Arch/ dioceses in Sabah (Kota Kinabalu, Keningau and Sandakan) have registered for the Virtual Sabah Youth Day-5 (SYD5), July 19-23.

Here is the breakdown of the participants; 1,464 participants (Archdiocese of Kota Kinabalu), 674 participants (Diocese of Keningau), 430 participants (Diocese of Sandakan) and seven other participants from Sarawak (Archdiocese of Kuching and Miri Diocese).

The Main Organising Team (MOT) and Sub-MOT organisers comprising 171 people brought the total number of entries to over 2,700 people. Also included were 16 entries from the clergy and religious.

This unprecedented number of youths who have registered even though it will be held virtually, shows that the youths in Sabah really missed this gathering and are looking forward to this important event.

Since 2004, Sabah Youth Day is one of the main events for all Catholic youths in Sabah to gather. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the SYD5 which was supposed to have been held in August last year had to be postponed.

By maintaining the theme “Here am I, the servant of the Lord; let it be with me according to your word.” Luke 1:38, the organisers learned from Mother Mary to remain submissive to God and say yes to His will in any situation of life.

This year’s SYD5 will be held in a new normal where all participants will follow the SYD5 online through their laptops or mobile phones from wherever they are.

Currently, preparations for the SYD5 are in full swing. Despite being bound by the new norms/SOPs, they remain in high spirits, especially those who are involved in the sessions and also the performers.

The COVID-19 pandemic has not broken the spirits or the faith of the youths.

SYD5 will be from 5.30pm to 9.00pm daily during the five-day event. Some sessions will be conducted through the Zoom app which is open to registered participants only.

Wait for SYD5 virtually and visit their website https://sabahcatholicyouth.com, Facebook and Youtube for updates.
