Talk on Church Marriage Law & Role of Ecclesiastical Tribunal

KUCHING — The Christian Family Life Commission, in collaboration with the Metropolitan Tribunal of the Archdiocese of Kuching, organised a talk on Church Marriage Law and the Role of the Ecclesiastical Tribunal on 22 February 2025 at the ACCPC. The event aimed to enhance awareness among members of the parishes’ family life ministry regarding the legal aspects of marriage within the Church.

The programme brought together over 70 participants from across the Archdiocese for a day of learning and discussion. The event commenced with a communal lunch, providing an opportunity for fellowship before transitioning into the main session.

His Grace Archbishop Simon Poh, opened the session with words of encouragement, emphasising the Church’s vital role in upholding the sanctity of marriage and family life. Following this, Fr Joseph Liew delivered an insightful presentation on Church marriage law and the function of the Ecclesiastical Tribunal. His talk provided valuable perspectives on the canonical processes related to marriage, deepening participants’ understanding of Church teachings and legal frameworks.

The interactive session fostered meaningful discussions, with participants actively engaging in questions and reflections on the topic. Many expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to gain deeper insights into the Church’s legal provisions concerning marriage.

The programme successfully reinforced the importance of faith, commitment, and legal clarity in marital life within the Church. It also underscored the Church’s ongoing efforts to support couples and families in their spiritual journeys.
