SERIAN — St Theresa’s Parish Serian organised an Altar Servers Workshop for Zone Simunjan on Saturday, 24 February 2024. The annual workshop was held at St John Chrysostom, Kpg Melanjok, the hosting parish in the Simunjan district.

The workshop was open to all altar servers from Kampung Sekendu, Kampung Sungai Lingkau and Kampung Melanjuk. More than 27 youths from the three kampongs participated in the workshop with eight altar servers from the Parish Youth Ministry of Kampung Melanjok, Simunjan in attendance.

The day began with a registration and welcome session, followed by a presentation by Mr Jesse William, St Theresa’s Altar Server’s assistant chairman. Mr William spoke about the importance of the altar server ministry and the things that are required during the Holy Mass.

The next talk presented by Mr Christ continued to touch on the Holy Mass. The last presenter, Mr Augustine Lian, talked about procedures as well as what the altar servers need to do and not do during the Mass.

The workshop concluded with a Mass celebrated by Fr Robert Jissem. Three participants from this workshop served at the Holy Mass guided by two of St Theresa’s Parish altar servers.

In his homily, Fr Robert thanked the altar servers for their service and encouraged them to continue to grow in their faith.

The Altar Servers Workshop is an annual event that provides youths with the opportunity to learn more about their ministry and to grow in their faith. The workshop is also a great opportunity for altar servers to meet other youths from around the parish and to make new friends.

Most importantly, the workshop encourages the youths to fulfill their responsibility as Catholics, to live fully by faith and also to encourage others to know more about the Catholic church and the second coming of our Lord.
