KUCHING — St Peter’s Church, Padungan is looking forward to making the parish an ecological parish, a member of the parish Creation Justice (CJ) team told Today’s Catholic.
Throughout the Season of Creation from 1 September – 4 October, a series of campaigns were launched to raise awareness among parishioners on climate crisis and the dire condition of Mother Earth.
The activities included subject-related exhibitions, signing of Ecological pledge, recycling which is ongoing, and showing of videos on the call of Laudato Si’ during all weekend Masses.
Worth a mention is the display of live animals on 29-30 September. Inspired by the life of St Francis on his love for creation and animals, the CJ team members brought hedgehogs, rabbits, cats, dogs, chicken and fighting fish to encourage children to touch them. From this close encounter with the animals, the team hope to instill in the children the love for animals. Along with the animals were write ups on each of the animals on display, with details on their behaviours, their likes and dislikes and how to care for them.
The Parish has also introduced zero plastics for all church activities. Parishioners are required to bring their own drinking bottles when taking part in any activities and talks organised by the parish.
