SJFS celebrate joyous double-celebration with “Rhythm & Colour”

KUCHING — St Joseph’s Family of Schools, Kuching is having a double-anniversary celebration this year on 5 and 6 August. In conjunction with this celebration, the school is organising a variety show that will feature the talents of their students in performing arts. The theme, “Rhythm and Colour—The Family Celebrates!” befits the celebration. At the same time, the show will raise funds for their new school building.

The national schools, namely St Joseph’s Private Primary School and St Joseph’s Private Secondary School, will mark their tenth anniversary while St Joseph’s International School will mark its fifth anniversary.

The celebratory event will give the school community a chance to reminisce about their good old school days. St Joseph’s School, currently known as SMK St Joseph, was started by the St Joseph’s Missionaries (Mill Hill Fathers) in 1882. The running of the school was handed over in the 1950s to the La Salle Brothers who ran the school for 35 years.

St Joseph’s School has been known for its academic and character formation, as testified by the alumni and teachers who are currently working in the St Joseph’s Family of Schools. The La Salle Brothers also instilled in their students the love and passion for the performing arts by organising annual variety shows and staging plays for drama competitions.

This legacy is now evident in the present generation of Josephians, studying in the St Joseph’s Family of Schools. Their creative endeavours, be it musical, drama and dance productions, have gained international recognition in recent years.

To continue with the legacy of academic and character formation as well as performing arts, a new school building with more learning facilities, school hall and a much-needed space for performing arts is in the pipeline at the ground of St Joseph’s Private National School, Jalan Nagor (Off Jalan Satok), Kuching. The event aims to raise RM200,000 to RM300,000 for the new building.

All alumni and supporters of the schools are encouraged to join the celebration online at 7.30 pm on 5 and 6 August. It will be live-streamed on the schools’ “Rhythm and Colour” website: https://sites.google.com/stjosephkuching.edu.my/rhythmandcolour2022/home
