KUCHING (March 5) — Leaders from various religious communities joined the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar for a breaking of fast at the Astana Negeri here last night.
They included Bishop of the Anglican Church in Sarawak and Brunei the Rt Revd Datuk Danald Jute, Kuching Roman Catholic Archbishop Dato Simon Poh, Unifor director Dato Georgina Apphia Ngau and other distinguished guests namely Datuk Tay Chin Kin, Dato Richard Wee Liang Chiat, Dato Dr Kalwinder Singh Khaira, Dato Shankar Ram Asnani and Dato Dr Au Yong Kien Hoe.
Also present were the Deputy Minister in the Premier of Sarawak’s Department (Law, MA63 and State-Federal Relations) Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali, Tanjung Datu assemblyman and Kuching Port Authority chairman Azizul Annuar Adenan, Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) Sarawak director Hamdan Jar’ee and other distinguished guests.
The event was organised by Astana Negeri and the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor).
On his official Facebook page, Wan Junaidi said the presence of leaders from various religious backgrounds at this event reflects the uniqueness of Sarawak as a state rich in cultural and religious diversity, where the value of respect continues to be preserved.
He expressed his gratitude for being able to gather in an atmosphere of harmony that strengthens relationships and the spirit of unity among the community.
“This is the true strength of Sarawak—not only rich in racial and religious diversity, but also the best example of how harmony and mutual understanding can continue to be nurtured in society,” said Wan Junaidi.
