KOTA SENTOSA — On Sunday, 15 September 2024, the Sacred Heart Parish in Kota Sentosa came alive with joy, unity, and purpose as it hosted the highly anticipated Sacred Heart Kota Sentosa Fiesta. Running from 7.00 am to 2.00 pm, the event was not only a day of celebration but also a significant fundraising effort, aimed at supporting the Church’s ongoing development projects. Under the theme “Sehati Mengasihi Dan Melayani Tuhan” (United in Loving and Serving the Lord) the fiesta successfully brought together parishioners from all walks of life in a vibrant display of faith and community spirit.
The day began early with a well-attended Sunday Mass at 7.30 am, where the faithful gathered in prayer and thanksgiving, marking the spiritual foundation of the event. This was followed by the official launching ceremony at 9.00 am, which was graced by prominent guests including YB Wilfred Yap Yau Sin and Mr Michael Kong (representing YB Chong Chieng Jen). The event was further blessed by the special appearance of Archbishop Simon Poh, who made a brief stopover on his way back from other engagements, offering his prayers and support for the parish’s mission.
The fiesta, which aimed to raise funds for building renovations and enhancements of community spaces, saw an impressive turnout of parishioners from various kampung, taman, and nearby parishes such as St Mark’s Church. Parish groups, ministries, and individuals came together to set up vibrant stalls selling a variety of goods, food, beverages, and pre-loved items, all aimed at supporting the fundraising effort. The collective effort not only exceeded financial expectations but also showcased the strong sense of unity within the community.
During the fiesta, parishioners also had the opportunity to participate in health screening and blood donation, managed by medical group from Kelab Perubatan Sarawak Kota Samarahan branch and Blood Bank Hospital Serian. This was to promote health awareness and encouraging community involvement in supporting local healthcare initiatives.
A highlight of the event was the lively welcoming dance performed by the youths from CYC St Joseph Sg Empit, setting the tone for a day filled with cultural expression and fellowship. Throughout the day, attendees were treated to captivating performances, including a heartfelt presentation by the Chinese Sunday School students, and uplifting renditions from both the English Choir Group and the BM Choir Group, whose voices filled the air with songs of praise and joy.
In addition to the performances, the stalls offering food, handmade crafts, and pre-loved items were bustling with activity. The aroma of local delicacies filled the parish grounds, and the sense of camaraderie among parishioners was palpable. Each sale was not just a contribution to the Church’s development fund but also an opportunity to strengthen relationships and foster a deeper connection within the community.
The fiesta’s success is a testament to the dedication and commitment of the parish community. It was not only a fundraising triumph, helping to secure the necessary funds for the church’s renovations and development projects, but also a spiritual victory. Through this celebration, the Sacred Heart Parish reinforced its mission of serving God and one another, building a stronger, more vibrant community in the process.
As the day came to a close, there was a palpable sense of accomplishment and gratitude. The Sacred Heart Kota Sentosa Fiesta was a true example of how faith, when combined with action, can bring about meaningful change. Parishioners left with their hearts full, knowing that they had played a part in not only strengthening their church but also in fostering a deeper sense of unity within their community.
In the words of Archbishop Simon Poh, “This fiesta is a beautiful reminder that when we come together in faith, we can accomplish more than we ever thought possible. Let us continue to serve with love and unity, as one body in Christ.”
Indeed, the Sacred Heart Kota Sentosa Fiesta 2024 will be remembered not only for its vibrant festivities but for the enduring spirit of service and togetherness it embodied.
