Emilianie Usun Remy is a Kenyah from Long Tap, Miri, while Felicia Binti Bunut is a Melanau from Kampung Tanam, Dalat, Sibu.

The two-year novitiate serves as a period of initiation and probation into the religious life of the congregation. During this time, the candidates, though not yet members of the congregation, wore distinct and simple probationary garb.

During the rite of entry, the candidates were called forth, asked about their intentions, given the garb and symbol of probation, and formally accepted into the novitiate—the beginning of their formation in religious life.
