BETONG — On 1 March  2025, the Faith Development Committee organised the Annual Recollection 2025 at Holy Family Church Betong Conference Room. This spiritual gathering brought together 55 participants from various churches, including Holy Family Church Betong, Our Lady Queen of Peace Sri Aman, St Peter Church Jaong Ulu Roban, St Matthew Church Meruji Saratok, St Anthony Church Skrang, St Michael Lubok Antu, and Mount Hosanna Church Sri Aman.

A Spiritual Journey of Reflection and Learning

The recollection centered around the theme “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light for my path” (Psalm 119:105), emphasising the guiding power of God’s Word in the lives of those called to serve. The session provided an opportunity for deep reflection, with participants spending most of the time attentively listening to Fr Henry Jimbey, who shared profound insights on the roles and responsibilities of liturgical ministers in the Church.

Strengthening the Call to Serve

The recollection reaffirmed that serving as a lector, psalmist, or commentator is not merely a role but a sacred calling that requires faith, commitment, and a profound connection to God’s Word. Participants were reminded that proclaiming Scripture is more than reading; it brings God’s message to life, inspiring and guiding the congregation in worship.

This call to service extends beyond the church, requiring ministers to live out their faith in their daily lives, embracing their identity as believers and contributing actively to the spiritual growth of their community. With a deeper awareness of their responsibilities, the participants reflected on the importance of approaching their ministry with prayer, humility, and dedication.

Embracing Liturgical Excellence

In addition to spiritual formation, the session emphasised the practical aspects of liturgical ministry, ensuring that each role is carried out with reverence and excellence. Participants were guided on the importance of liturgical awareness, including understanding the significance of feast days, proper liturgical attire, effective coordination between commentators and clergy, and the careful selection of hymns that enhance the sacred celebration.

These elements are essential in fostering a meaningful and solemn liturgical experience for the faithful. By refining their skills, knowledge, and spiritual disposition, the participants left the recollection with a renewed commitment to serve with greater love, humility, and devotion, ensuring that their ministry continues to uplift and inspire the faithful.

Walking Forward in Faith

The recollection concluded with the celebration of the Holy Mass, presided over by Fr Henry Jimbey, offering participants a moment of grace and renewal. As they departed, they carried with them a renewed sense of purpose, commitment, and devotion to their ministry.

This recollection not only strengthened their understanding of their liturgical roles but also deepened their faith and commitment to serve with reverence and joy. With Psalm 119:105 as their guiding light, they returned to their respective parishes inspired to serve with greater love, dedication, and devotion, ensuring that God’s Word continues to shine brightly in their communities.
