KUCHING — Pusat Jagaan Santa Clara is a Home for the Sisters of St Francis of Sarawak (SSFS). The present home, built in 2000 and opened on 8 December 2001, was unable to accommodate the increasing number of our elderly and sick sisters.
It was thus necessary to develop the empty plot next door for the purpose of extending holistic care and services, both to our own sisters and laity.
During the late Sr Adriana Tiong’s term of office (2006 – 2012), the project was initiated with the help from the office of Integrated Design Consultant (IDC). Supporting the project, Sister was involved in soliciting funds from close friends and relatives, which amounted to RM329,849.45
In December 2013, upon her re-election as Superior General, Sr Flora Tingang carried out the project plan. In consultations with IDC, minor changes were made. The project finally took off in August 2017 and was completed in July 2018.
The total cost of this project was RM1.4 Million. It was officially blessed by Msgr William Sabang on 24 September 2018.
The Franciscan Sisters would like to express their profound gratitude and appreciation to all their benefactors, friends and donors who made this project possible.
In the SSFS’s last General Chapter in December 2018, the proposal to extend their services to the elderly and sick laity was approved and confirmed. In this year of Mission, the newly elected Superior General, Sr Rose Wong encourages the Sisters to actively take part in the mission of Jesus, to let God’s love be known to all.
This is following the example of Jesus – sharing the Word of God and serving the poor and needy with love and compassion.
The Centre operates with fully trained Staff Nurses consisting of a palliative care nurse and a physiotherapist, who assist with the daily activities and exercises. The SSFS collaborate with the laity who share their passion on Franciscan Spirituality and values: to serve with love and humility, “for it is in giving that we receive.”
Pusat Jagaan Santa Clara will be holding an Open Day on 18 May 2019 from 9.30am – 1.00pm. The SSFS invite those who are interested to know more about their services to visit them at:
