SIBU (7 September) — During this Season of Creation from 1 September to 10 October 2024, Pope Francis has called upon mankind to be Agents of Change and Ambassadors of Hope, amid the despair of the world in its fight against climate change and global warming, urging, “Do not despair”.
At the launching Mass of the PROTEC campaign (Year Five), Bishop Joseph Hii in his homily also echoed the call of our Holy Father Pope Francis.
“Do not despair, there is Hope in Christ Jesus. Be Agents of Change and Ambassadors of Hope,” he encouraged the students from Catholic High, SK Sacred Heart, SK Hua Hin, who were among the 300 participants during the launching Mass this morning at Sacred Heart Cathedral.
Bishop Hii was accompanied by rector Fr Philip Hu, assistant priest Franciscan Capuchin Friar Raphael Samosir, OFMCAP and Neocatechumenal Way priest Fr Edward Raymond.
“In your little action and deed of pouring the enzymes onto the drain, you have become an Ambassador of Christ, bringing Hope to others surrounding you,” the bishop reminded his flock.
Representatives from the 12 parishes of the Diocese of Sibu were present to receive the banner to bring the message back to their respective parishes.
Over the past four years, the PROTEC committee has been doing its part in the community by encouraging people to reduce, recycle and ‘refuse’ the use of electricity, fuel and plastic, as well as to eat less meat. In this fifth year, it has turned to “cutting down the use of paper and wood”.
The young people were seen enjoying their learning during this two-and-a-half hour nurturing and educational session, which was followed by the celebration of the Eucharist.
