Pope to new Cardinals: Let there be no intrigues, gossip among you

Pope Francis co-celebrated Mass with the new Cardinals in St. Peter’s Basilica.

During his homily, the Pope explained how a Cardinal should behave, and urged them to love everyone just as Jesus did.

POPE FRANCIS
“When a brother or sister is left out, it is God himself who is not being welcomed. A heart without love is like a deconsecrated church, a building withdrawn from God’s service and given over to another use.”

Pope Francis also spent time describing the attitudes new Cardinals should never embrace, since they have nothing to do with their new mission.

POPE FRANCIS
“A Cardinal enters the Church of Rome, brothers, he does not join a royal court! May all of us avoid, and help others to avoid, habits and ways of acting typical of a court: intrigue, gossip, cliques, favoritism and preferences.”

Pope Francis admitted that sometimes the ideal’s of the Gospel may seem unreachable, but that they are possible under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

With the news Cardinals created on Saturday, the College of Cardinals has 218 members, 122 of them are electors.
