VATICAN CITY — (AsiaNews) 05/25/2019. Abortion “is never the answer”, and human life “is sacred and inviolable”: on this point “the teaching of the Church is clear and unchanged”, said Pope Francis this morning to the participants at the international “Yes to Life” conference, which concluded today at the Augustinianum.
The event was organized by the Dicastery for Laity, Family and Life in collaboration with the non-profit organization “Il Cuore in un goccia” and the support of the Knights of Columbus. About 400 people from 70 countries representing Bishops’ Conferences, dioceses, families, together with doctors and experts in the field of perinatal care to discuss the defense of human life in extreme fragility.
The use of prenatal diagnosis should be “strongly discouraged” for selective purposes: “it is the expression of an inhuman eugenics mentality, which removes the possibility of welcoming, embracing and loving the weakest children from families”.
Franics stated: Abortion “is a human problem, faith has nothing to do with it. We should not burden faith with something that does not belong to it from the outset. Is it permissible to eliminate a human life to solve a problem? Hire a hit man to solve a problem? To you the answer. This is the point, religion has nothing to do with it, it is a human thing. It is never lawful! “
In this perspective, the Pope continues, “no human being can ever be incompatible with life, not because of his age, his health, nor for the quality of his existence. Every child who announces himself in the womb of a woman is a gift, that changes the history of a family: of a father and a mother, of grandparents and brothers, and this child needs to be welcomed, loved and cared for.
