KUCHING — Parishes in the Archdiocese of Kuching were encouraged to prepare for a powerful outpouring of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost Sunday, 28 May 2023. The Emmaus Servant Community of Blessed Sacrament Church (BSC) organised a Novena to the Holy Spirit that coincided with a Healing Mass and two days of Inner Healing Retreat led by Fr Varghese Parackal, a Vincentian priest from Perth, Australia.

This resulted in a spirit-filled atmosphere at the Charismatic Mass on Pentecost Sunday celebrated by BSC rector, Fr Leonard Yap, with Emmaus leading the Praise and Worship and Prayers for healing which included praying in tongues.

A Pentecost Rally organised in collaboration with the Archdiocesan Charismatic Renewal Team at St Joseph’s Cathedral later in the afternoon, kept the fire of the Holy Spirit alive.

Fr Galvin Richard Ngumbang, in his exhortation said the Pentecost message is simple: “We are a people of faith. Jesus sends the Holy Spirit to gather all of us together, to fill us, to equip us, to pour his gifts upon us so that we are able to work and build up the kingdom of God here on earth.”
