KUCHING — Blessed Sacrament Church (BSC) held its annual parish gathering for all ministries on 12 January 2025. The afternoon BBQ potluck to show appreciation to the various ministries also aimed to foster fellowship among the parish community.

The event commenced with Rosary and Divine Mercy recitations at Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto after which the community proceeded to the parish carpark for the potluck gathering.

PPC chairperson Pauline Lim in her welcome speech spoke briefly about the upcoming BSC Family Day to be held in May this year, encouraging everyone to give their support to the parish fundraising exercise.

Parish rector Fr Leonard Yap thanked members of the ministries for their presence. Earlier at the morning Sunday Mass of the Baptism of the Lord, Fr Leonard explained the meaning of the logo of the Ordinary Jubilee Year 2025. The Jubilee of Hope is a time of reconciliation.

As ‘Pilgrims of Hope’, we are to strengthen our relationship with God and with others. Jesus is our ‘hope’ like the anchor in the logo, to put balance in our life. ‘Jesus is always with us’, and we are to embrace his compassionate, humble and forgiving nature.

Fr Leonard expounded on these points again at the community gathering, to drive home the message of compassion, humility and forgiveness in this Jubilee Year 2025. He then blessed the sumptuous spread of local food and fruits.

The afternoon entertainment included the popular ‘poco poco’, sape music and singing.

The ‘environment friendly’ potluck also meant attendees had to bring their own cutlery and do their own washing, a great way to create awareness to save the environment.
