MIRI (Dec 7) — Over 40,000 parishioners from churches of various Christian denominations flocked to Miri City Fan this evening to be part of the 15th Miri City Christmas Parade.
Themed ‘Jesus Christ the Life and the Light of All People’, the event, hosted by the Anglican Church this year, kicked off with a praise-worship session.
Taken from the book of John, Chapter 1 verse 4, which is ‘In Him is life, and that life is the light of all mankind’, the theme emphasises on the harmony among the multiracial community of Miri City.
Activities lined up for the evening included a concert featuring performances by various participating denominations.
The parade was flagged off by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.
Also present were Deputy Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Sebastian Ting, Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin and Miri Mayor Adam Yii among others.
It passes through Jalan Sylvia, Jalan Brooke, Jalan Kingsway, Jalan Puchong, Jalan Padang, Jalan Melayu, Jalan Nahkoda Gampar, Jalan Cina, Jalan Bendahara, Jalan North Yu Seng, Jalan South Yu Seng, Jalan Merpati, and Jalan Kipas, before heading back to Miri City Fan.
There were also Christmas carols and street performances along the parade.
