KUCHING — It is a norm that at the end of the Police Basic Training Program (PLAK), the
Police Constable at the Police Training Centre (PULAPOL) in Kuching, will be celebrated with a Passing of Parade (POP) Ceremony. For the Christian trainees, the All Saints’ Church of PULAPOL will usually organise a special Thanksgiving and Blessing ceremony for them.

Contrary to the norm, the graduates of the recent pass-out Police Basic Training Program
(No.28, 12/2019 Series), did not receive their parade because of the Covid-19 Pandemic. To alleviate their feelings of sadness and frustration, the All Saints’ Church took the initiative to arrange for Archbishop Simon Poh to bless them in a recorded video. For this squad, there are 158 Christian constable recruits, coming from all over Malaysia, of various denominations. They are now being posted to their respective formations throughout the country, with special attachments to Kuala Lumpur and Sabah.

Archbishop Simon congratulated the ex-recruits for their achievements in finishing their training. In his message, Archbishop referred to the scripture verse from Matthew 5: 13–15, for the new constables. He encouraged them to use the Bible App, ‘Alkitab Versi Borneo (AVB)’ for their prayers while on duty. After the Bible sharing, Archbishop Simon blessed these new policemen.

Reminiscing his old memories, Archbishop Simon had a sweet history with the All Saints’ Church. Between 1996–1999, when he was a parish priest at St Ann’s Parish, he always celebrated Mass at that church. In fact, he was the one who consecrated the church building in its early days.

The All Saints’ Church is a unique and special Church. Located at the Police Training Centre (PULAPOL) at Borneo Heights Road, this church is owned by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM). This church is meant for the Christian police who work at PULAPOL Kuching. It is also an Ecumenical Church where all Christian police are combined together with the staff, their families and where the Christian police recruits from the various denominations unite. The Christian Welfare Committee of PULAPOL is taking care and running this church for the good of its members. The Parish of St Ann, Kota Padawan is also assigning All Saints’ Church as part of their outstation, especially to reach the Catholic community there.
