Kuching Secular Carmelites push on towards evangelical perfection

KUCHING — The council members of Christ The King OCDS Community – Catherine Sim (President), Councillors – Juliana Lim (1st), Annie Yeo (2nd), Monica Soon (3rd) and Cynthia Lim (Formation Director) paid a courtesy visit to Archbishop Simon Poh on 8 February 2022 at 3.00 pm at the conference room, ACCPC.

The OCDS Council updated Archbishop Simon Poh on their community’s activities and membership.

Christ The King OCDS Community (Secular Order of Discalced Carmelites) held a ceremony of the Clothing and Reception of Temporary Promise of their Secular Members conducted by Fr Ramon Borja, SDB on 19 February 2022 at 6.00 pm Sunset Mass at the Carmelite Chapel of Kuching.

The community’s Spiritual Assistant Fr Christopher Loh (OCD), with the approval of Archbishop Simon Poh, had delegated the task of officiating the ceremony to Fr Ramon Borja, SDB who is the parish-based Spiritual Advisor to the Community.

The OCDS candidates who took their Temporary Promise to tend towards evangelical perfection in the spirit of the evangelical counsels of chastity, poverty and obedience, and of the Beatitudes, according to the Constitutions of the Secular Order of Discalced Carmelites for three years were Jerome Lim, Robert Lim and Theresa Voon.

The new novices who were clothed with the scapular—the habit of the Carmelites—were Laurena Liew, Christina Chin, Chelsia Lim and Joseph Loi.
