SIBU — On 21 October, four members of the Islamic Information Centre (IIC), Kuching paid a courtesy visit to the Diocese of Sibu for the first time.

They were warmly welcomed by the assistant parish priest and the Head of Commission for Ecumenism, Fr Ferdinand Vergeer. A friendly dialogue was held at the conference room at Sacred Heart Cathedral that morning. During the dialogue, Ms Zahariah Binti Haji Matali, CEO of IIC explained that the dialogues were held with different religious institutions to better understand the beliefs of other faith. “We hope our Muslims brothers and sisters of Sarawak would lead as role models to continue a dialogue of understanding and be tolerant to people of other beliefs to live in peace and remain united as ‘One Malaysia’,” she said.

“Sarawak is truly unique to have its people to respect and to live in peace and harmony for the past hundred years,” she added. Everyone present shared the same sentiment.

Mr Muhamad Zakaria bin Haji Ashmat, Mr Khabirudeen bin Palaver and Mr Norhizam bin Muhd Sarip were the other three members from IIC.

The one-hour dialogue ended with light refreshments.
