KOTA PADAWAN — The Home of Peace celebrated its annual Christmas and Thanksgiving Party on Saturday, 14 December at Jalan Landeh, Kota Padawan with more than 100 guests, staff and residents.

The occasion began with a Mass at 4.00pm co-celebrated by Archbishop Simon Poh and Fr Patrick Heng, Spiritual Director of Catholic Welfare Services Council, Sarawak at the Home’s chapel.

Archbishop Simon took the opportunity to announce Archbishop Emeritus John Ha’s moving in as chaplain of the Home in January 2020. Fr Patrick Heng wished CWS all the best in their endeavour to assist the poor and needy. He urged the parishioners to continue supporting CWS with their generous donations.

CWS depends on Charity Food Fairs and events to raise substantial sums to meet the operating costs of the Home. With rising costs, fund raising will be an annual event.

After the Mass, all were welcomed to join the management, staff and residents for the party at the Home’s dining hall which had been nicely decorated by the staff and residents. They were welcomed by a traditional dance from two ladies dressed in Iban costumes.

Sr Ursula Lian, the Matron of the Home, in her speech thanked all the sponsors and donors for their support during the year, especially for the donation of two vans for the Home’s use.

She also thanked the staff for carrying out their duties professionally as well as Archbishop and all the invited guests for their attendance.

Santa Claus made his entrance ringing his bell and distributed goodies from his over-sized red bag. Many took the opportunity for a quick photo with Santa.

After saying grace, a sumptuous dinner was served by the Home’s staff who also helped to prepare and cook some of the dishes. Archbishop Simon Poh then handed out Christmas ‘angpows’ to all the staff on behalf of the Management of the Home.

Archbishop Simon started off the Karaoke session with John Denver’s ‘Country road take me home’. Chairman of Padawan Municipal Council, YB Lo Khere Chiang also rendered a song to entertain the crowd.

The evening wrapped up with the popular ‘Poco Poco’ that saw many on their feet.

Home of Peace wishes everyone a happy and blessed Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year!
