KUCHING — The Lions Club of Kuching City and St Joseph’s Cathedral-based ministry GROWTH celebrated their annual joint Christmas Party on Saturday, 7 December 2024 at St John’s & St Lucy’s Conference Hall in the ACCPC building. The party was again sponsored by the Lions Club of Kuching City and assisted by Leo Clubs of St Joseph’s Private School, SMK St Teresa and SM Lodge.
It was attended by around 120 people, comprising members of GROWTH along with their family members, carers and volunteers together with Lions and Leo Club members.
Every year, GROWTH members look forward to this annual event as it is one of the very few opportunities available that they are able to attend a party and enjoy fellowship with others.
The event began with Holy Mass at 10.00 am celebrated by Fr Patrick Heng at the Archbishop’s Holy Family Chapel. Then, all adjourned to the Conference Hall for the remainder of the programme. 26 special members of GROWTH enjoyed the party which started off with singing of the GROWTH theme song (Hari Ini), followed by Christmas carols, violin and live performances by Salvation Army children.
The Organising Chairman and Past President, Mr Vincent Tan delivered his welcoming speech, followed by a welcoming remark from the Vice President of Lions Club of Kuching City, Datu Dr Zulklifli Jantan together with special remarks from Fr Patrick Heng. A note of thanks was conveyed by the Vice President of GROWTH, Mdm Augustina Balan.
This was followed by games and the giving out of presents sponsored by Vincent Goh and Lion Mona and ang pau from PCC Tan Soh Har. Even a young Santa made an appearance.
Fr Stanley Goh, SJ also joined the occasion, as he previously did in 2023. All present were treated to a sumptuous lunch. The party lit up with many happy faces of the GROWTH community members.
