Gawai Mass at St Mathew’s Church, Sibuluh

BAU — A Gawai Mass was celebrated with pomp and splendour at St Mathew’s Church Sibuluh on 31 May which was presided by Rev Fr Patrick Heng.

A traditional liturgical dance led by dancers and accompanied with music from gongs. The songs were in Bahasa Malaysia, Bahasa Kadazan, Bahasa Cina and Bahasa Bidayuh.

In his homily, Rev Fr Patrick Heng welcomed its much anticipated Gawai celebration to give thanks to God for another successful harvest of the padi while praying for another good season up ahead.

Rev Fr Patrick Heng also stressed on the need for the faithful to have a living relationship with Christ and touched on the three priorities of the diocese, namely, to cultivate a God-fearing culture, faith formation and sense of social responsibility.

After the mass, everyone was invited to join in the fellowship dinner. The evening continued with cultural performance by enthusiastic young performers and also live band performance.
