KUCHING — 75 Sunday School students from Blessed Sacrament Church (English Session) received their First Holy Communion (FHC) at a Mass celebrated by parish rector Fr Leonard Yap, on 21 October 2023.

The students had been preparing for this day since March this year, guided by their faith facilitators with the help of two seminarians from St Peter’s College, Kuching.

To enable the communicants to experience receiving the Holy Eucharist on the tongue, Fr Leonard requested their first Holy Communion be given on the tongue. The common practice now is to receive the Eucharist in the hand.

Prior to receiving their first Holy Communion, these students attended a retreat on 30 September to prepare them for the sacrament of Communion. They received the sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession) on 7 October 2023.

Fr Leonard, in his homily directed at the FHC students and their parents, stressed the importance of continuing with their Sunday School classes, attending Sunday Mass, to receive Holy Communion and do regular confessions. He urged the parents to accompany their children in their journey of faith and to be there to guide them.
