LIMBANG (17 January 2025) — A historic milestone was celebrated with the first batch of 12 young graduates graduating from Tadika St Edmund after 12 years of silence. Tadika St Edmund eased operations in November 2012.

Bishop Richard Ng decided that a Catholic kindergarten should be reinstated for our Catholic children. Tadika St Edmund re-opened its doors in March 2023 with 14 students, with its premises at the newly completed St Edmund’s Hall. In 2024, the student population had increased to 28.

The event was officiated by Fr Johnny Ho. In his address, Fr Johnny Ho emphasised the importance of daily prayers in nurturing a child’s spiritual foundation, encouraging families to teach prayers not only in English but also in Bahasa Malaysia. The children enthusiastically recited The Lord’s Prayer with Fr Johnny.

Mdm Susan Soh, representing the Miri Diocese’s Kindergarten Board of Management, spoke about the family as the child’s primary learning environment. She highlighted the need for close cooperation between parents, the school, and the Church to foster positive and holistic child development.

The headmistress, Ms Jacyntha, expressed her sincere appreciation to parents, teachers, and all involved for making the event a success. She acknowledged the commitment of families in supporting the kindergarten’s journey and emphasised the significance of community engagement in shaping young learners.

The ceremony featured lively performances by the five and six-year-olds, who entertained their parents and relatives with songs and dances. Additionally, outstanding students were honoured with awards for full attendance, most helpful student, best academics, and best overall student in their respective levels.

This inaugural graduation not only marked the kindergarten’s revival but also signified a promising future for Catholic education in Limbang. With unwavering support from the Church, school and families, by the grace of God, the kindergarten will continue to provide a nurturing and faith-centred foundation for many generations to come.
