KUCHING — St Joseph’s Cathedral Parish organised a faith seminar entitled “Faithful Discipleship – Church: Disciples of the Word in Communion for Mission” on Saturday 22 September at the Christian Ecumenical Worship Centre, Kuching. Some 240 participants comprising members of lay organisations and parishioners attended the one day seminar.
The seminar began with a short opening address by Rev Fr Felix Au who welcomed everyone and gave a short explanation on the basis of the seminar. Fr Felix explained that the parish level seminar is a continuation from the Archdiocesan Pastoral Congress where the whole Archdiocese of Kuching gathered to review, reflect and gave recommendations based on the activities of the past five years on the pastoral Focus on the Family. The seminar aimed to instil in parishioners a better understanding on “Discipleship”, “Communion” and “Mission”.
There were 3 sessions with consecutive workshop sessions. Felix Kong presented the first session on “Disciples of the Word” and he covered topics such as what it means to be ‘Disciples of the Word’, how to use the Bible as a source of prayer and Lectio Divina. The second session was presented by Allan Tan on “In Communion”, how communion came about and how each and every one can be in communion with others. Benedict Lo presented the last session entitled “For Mission”. It covered topics such as what mission is and why mission is important. The key important issues were tabled with proposal of action plan at the concluding session.
The seminar concluded with a Sunset Mass for all participants and helpers at the same venue.
