KUCHING — A total of 35 youths composing of Form 5 leavers, college/university students and young working adults have gathered to study the Acts of the Apostles – The Spread of the Kingdom from The Great Adventure: A Journey Through the Bible Series by Ascension Press.
Over six months from June 2021, the youths gathered online on Thursday evenings for a time of praise and worship before breaking into their cell groups to discuss and share with one another based on the guiding question from the study material.
Prior to meeting on Thursdays, the youths would need to conduct their preparation for the respective Thursday sessions at their own time by studying the chapters of the Acts of the Apostles and the relating verses from other books in the Bible. After the respective Thursday session, the youths can view a video of that week’s teaching session by Jeff Cavins to further reinforce their understanding and prompt them to reflection as well as application in their own lives.
Through the commitment and discipline over the study of the scripture and meeting weekly to share with one another, the youths bore fruits in gaining knowledge of the foundational story of scripture and a deepened faith and relationship with God. Before the study on the Acts of the Apostles, some of the youths have undergone the foundational bible study of the Journey Through the Bible which are The Story of Salvation and Matthew: The King and His Kingdom.
The study on the Acts of the Apostles shows the continuation of the work of Christ after his resurrection as he empowers believers with the Holy Spirit to carry out the mission of God’s salvation on earth. Having gone through the three-part foundational bible study series, the youths have a “bigger picture” perspective and laid a significant foundation to support and augment a lifetime of Scripture reading, study and understanding of God’s plan for salvation.
