KUCHING (Dec 14) — The White Cat Garden of Kuching lit up with a unique installation of Christmas tree and Santa in conjunction with the Christmas celebrations.

Situated on the right side of the cat statue, the two new installations creatively utilised recycled tyres contributed by private companies.

Speaking to reporters after officiating the lighting ceremony at White Cat Garden, Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng emphasised the whole installation, including how the Christmas decorations and lights are part and parcel of MBKS’ approach to engage with the local community every festive season.

“We want everyone to feel a sense of belonging here in the city, and we hope that this will continue on.

“I extend my warm wishes for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all,” he said.

Looking ahead to the upcoming Chinese New Year celebration, Wee disclosed MBKS’s intention to continue the eco-friendly theme by using recycled materials for decorations.

“For the Year of the Dragon next Chinese New Year, we are exploring ideas on how to fashion a dragon statue using recycled tires,” he shared.

The Santa and Christmas tree installation made of recycled tyres adorn ornament and lights.

Meanwhile, Archbishop of Kuching Archdiocese Simon Poh also took the opportunity to wish everyone a happy and blessed Christmas celebration.

“Christmas is about sharing and peace. As Kuching is a city of unity, we are going to extend this unity and work together for the goodwill of the people of Sarawak, and Malaysia.

“We wish everyone a Merry Christmas, a joyous, blessed and peaceful family reunion,” he said. The lighting ceremony featured a festive touch, with a choir from MBKS singing Christmas songs, spreading joy and adding to the celebratory atmosphere.
