KUCHING — Over 80 members from the Divine Mercy Apostolate and Padre Pio Divine Mercy Centre, together with family and friends, journeyed over an hour by car and bus from Kuching to Kampung Subang, Kota Padawan, on 1 May 2019.

Their mission was three-fold:

  • To visit and present to the new (almost completed) Chapel of Our Lady of Grace, a Bell donated by Fr Vic from the Philippines, and to hand over gifts of a 4-feet high Crucifix and a 50 x 70-inch Divine Mercy image.
  • To bring the message of Love and Mercy to the kampung folks, especially the Divine Mercy devotions.
  • To carry out Works of Mercy.

The Divine Mercy team were greeted on arrival by dancers in traditional costumes. After the recitation of the DM chaplet and presentation ceremony at the Chapel, they were treated to a Bidayuh lunch at the community hall.

They had been invited to Kampung Subang by Doreen Nayur, chairlady of the committee of Chapel of Our Lady of Grace.

The Divine Mercy team comprised mainly the laity from St Peter’s Church, St Joseph’s Cathedral and Blessed Sacrament Church. They had come with food provisions and clothing.

The team organised themselves into nine groups, with each group tasked to visit the home of an identified poor family.

Besides food and clothing, the nine families also received images of the Divine Mercy and angpows.

The visitors then led them in prayers before wishing them well, and left with a feeling of hope that their works of mercy, no matter how small, have brought some joy to the less privileged.
