KUCHING — The Confirmation Mass is the last step for confirmands to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. Organised by the Sunday School under the Ministry of Bible and Faith Formation for the year 2024, 73 students in total received the Sacrament of Confirmation on 6 October during the 10.30 am English Mass at Blessed Sacrament Church (BSC).

The confirmands were from Level 10 of both English and Chinese sessions and from the Chinese Adult Confirmation class. 51 students were from Level 10 English session, 14 students were from the Level 10 Chinese session, and eight were from the Chinese Adult Confirmation class.

In his homily, Archbishop Simon Poh explained the significance of receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation. To simplify, he said it is as if the students received a chop or seal that meant they belong to the Catholic Church and to God. Through this seal, it meant that the book belonged to a specific library—an acknowledgment of where the book should belong to when returned.

Therefore, the confirmands have received their seal and have been branded to belong to God. They have received the Holy Spirit, who will help them as they navigate through their daily Catholic life in the future. The confirmands were reminded that no matter what, they are children of God, and God’s love will prevail until the end of their lives.

A group photo of the confirmands with Archbishop Simon and Fr Leonard Yap was taken in front of the altar. Later, the students, their parents and loved ones adjoined to the Parish Hall for with a potluck lunch together with BSC parish councillors, faith facilitators, and Seminarian Bro Lincoln.

Sacrament of Confirmation certificates were also given out to the students after the lunch.
