KUCHING — The Conference of St Joseph, Kuching, Sarawak of the Society of St Vincent de Paul, Malaysia recently received food aid contribution from a special charity project named “Combat Malnutrition for Urban B40” supported by the Yayasan Hasanah, a foundation established by Khazanah Nasional. The food parcels received were distributed to 19 adopted families of the Conference. The food donation will continue over a period of six months, with the first distribution commenced in February 2021.
According to Marian Chin, a member of an NGO that started the charity project, on top of the basic needs for food and shelter, the project was launched with the aim to add another dimension to the needs of the B40 group, which is nutrition.
Each food parcel, as can be seen in the picture below, included fresh goat milk, local red rice, beans, lentils and several cans of Sarawak traditional delicacies which contain a host of nutrients. The fresh ingredients were bought from local farmers and the food was prepared by professional cooks who lost their jobs during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Families who benefitted from this charity project are very grateful to receive the food contribution.
