Celebrating Solemnity of St John of the Cross at Carmelite Chapel

By CTK Council

KUCHING — The Solemnity of St John of the Cross (the co-founder & Holy Father of the Discalced Carmelites) is celebrated yearly on 14 December. This year we have the privilege of having a Carmelite friar in town, Fr Philip Tay OCD, who celebrated the Solemnity Mass at the Carmelite Chapel.

During the Mass, Fr Philip Tay OCD accepted the petition of Michael Then for his Temporary Promise (TP) making. Michael did his TP making in the presence of CTK OCDS community, the nuns and the congregation. Upon making his TP, Michael is now officially a member of the Secular Order of the Discalced Carmelites.

Fr Philip in his homily quoted John 13:35—Jesus said, “By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another”. He emphasised that love unites all in the community. It is important that members are able to get support from his/her community. There is disunity when a community is fermented. In conclusion, he said “Love unites all” and “devil disunites and causes disunity”.

Members of CTK OCDS community adjourned for breakfast after the Mass to conclude this joyful occasion.
