Catholic Welfare Services to hold AGM

KUCHING — The Catholic Welfare Services Council, Sarawak (CWS) will hold its Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the Home of Peace (HOPE) at Jln Landeh, Mile 10 Kuching-Serian Road on 3 May at 9 am.

Archbishop John Ha will officiate at the AGM that will also see the election of the new CWS committee. All members are reminded to attend the meeting.

After the AGM, the Archbishop will declare open HOPE’s new nursing wing.

The nursing wing was completed last February at a cost of about RM300,000 and has a capacity for 14 beds and physiotherapy facilities.

The need for a nursing wing came about as a result of numerous cases of applicants who had to be turned away because they were not physically independent and need nursing care.

CWS set up HOPE as a home for the elderly and homeless poor in our community. It is jointly run by the Sisters of St Francis of Sarawak and, presently, there are 12 residents in the Home.

The Home depends solely on sponsorships and donations from the generous public and parishioners of the Catholic Church.

CWS invites parishioners to sign up as members and volunteer their services to help CWS reach out to the poor and needy.  Funds raised through the annual Lenten Appeal is channelled to various activities including the management of HOPE, a number of rural parishes, adoption of poor families and students and the sick.
CWS can be contacted at 082-241407.
