KUCHING (1 September) The recent offensive statements on the Holy Bible made by PAS Pasir Puteh MP, YB Dr. Muhammad Zawawi Bin Haji Salleh at the 14th Dewan Rakyat Parlimen on 26 August, has received a torrent of backlash coming from all sides of the political divide and the Christian Community.

Archbishop Simon Poh, who is the Chairman of the Association of Churches in Sarawak (ACS), issued a statement on 28 August demanding an apology and for the remarks to be retracted in Parliament.

Joining the chorus for the PAS MP to be censured are the Chairman of the Christian Federation of Malaysia, Archbishop Julian Leow, and the President of the Sabah Council of Churches, Bishop James Wong, calling such insensitive statements “inciting and sowing dissension at a time of need for unity” and “offensive statements that sow discord and disharmony”.
