KUCHING — The reprint of 1000 copies of the book Living Our Faith has once again met with tremendous success.

A cheque amounting to RM55,284 was handed over to the chairman of Yayasan LaSallian Kuching, Peter Yap on 25 July. The simple ceremony was witnessed by Archbishop John Ha and representatives of Yayasan LaSallian Kuching (YLK).

The total turnover from sales of the reprint and donations amounted to RM60,480 while the net income was RM55,284. The proceed of the sales goes to YLK, a non-profit organisation founded by the initiative of the late De La Salle Br Albinus O’Flaherty, to provide education for the poor and disadvantaged children.

The book Living Our Faith is a compilation of 104 articles written by the late De La Salle Br Columba Gleeson originally published in Today’s Catholic. It was put together by Br Columba and his former pupils from the Class of ‘63 of Sacred Heart School (Sibu), spearheaded by Raymond Teo. The book made its debut on 2 October 2013. Due to increased demand, the committee reprinted 1000 copies of the book in February this year.

Raymond Teo said at the handover ceremony that his committee was very pleased with the little book. In the words of Br Columba, he said the book has been “a positive formative influence on people’s lives.”

This is evidenced by an email feedback by Kim Nguyen from California, USA, which read: “Before I read Living Our Faith by Br Columba Gleeson, I have read a few inspirational books by different authors. However, with this book, from chapter to chapter, I feel a warm feeling of his teachings, the voice of his guidance on how to live a truly not just Christian’s life but as a human being. Br Columba takes us to another spiritual dimension by sharing his own personal experiences during his time on earth – he reminded us that we are only transit passenger in this life – and life is precious and too short – he pointed out the solitude and quiet place and how important we need them in order for us to come face to face with ourselves and with God. His compassion and devotion to God is truly amazing. Thank you Br Columba – I find my sanctuary each time I pick your book to read.”

The committee would like to thank friends, benefactors and everyone whose support made the book available in West Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia, Singapore, USA, Ireland, India, Australia and the Netherlands.

Limited copies of Living Our Faith are still available from St Joseph’s Cathedral Parish (082-423424) and Allan Tan of YKL (010-9726135).
