BINTULU — Parishioners who turned up for the Morning Mass on 26 July were invited by the Parish Priest Fr Michael Sia to the blessing of the just renovated Shrine of Mary at St Anthony’s Church.
Earlier in his homily, he explained that the statue is only a representation of Mary and the Catholic faith. It should serve as a reminder to all to follow the example of Mother Mary by living a life of holiness and obedience to God.
He said many Christian couples today choose contraception. They limit the number of children they should have or even go for abortion for unwanted pregnancies.
According to the Tradition of the Church, St Joachim and St Anne were good parents of Mother Mary and grandparents of Jesus, Fr Michael told the parishioners.
The two saints, whose Memorials were being celebrated that day, are role models for today’s parents and grandparents as they took great interest in passing on their faith to their grandchild.
