SHAH ALAM — The Church of the Divine Mercy celebrated her annual feast day on Divine Mercy Sunday.
Daily Masses from Easter until Mercy Sunday, presided over by guest preachers, culminated with the Eucharistic celebration held after the recitation of the Divine Mercy chaplet at 3.00pm, that “hour of great mercy for the whole world”.
The Mass was celebrated by Archbishop Julian Leow. Concelebrating with him were parish priest, Fr Alan Pereira, and assistant priest, Fr Michel Dass. The theme of the celebration was Salt of the Earth, Light of the World, with a special emphasis on family living.
Archbishop Julian, in his homily said, God has given us Divine Mercy Sunday to reflect His total giving of Himself. And He expects us to do likewise.
“Jesus has turned everything upside down. He gave His life so that we may live. God loves us so much yet we find it difficult to love and to forgive those closest and nearest to us. It is easier to love and to care for strangers.
“This is why Jesus came, to move the focus from myself to others. Everything Jesus has done is for the other,” he said.
The archbishop invited us to show mercy to one another. If we have held back on forgiveness, thought of our own wellbeing and focused on ourselves, we may end up preserving our lives but losing our relationships and peace of mind.
“Am I able to imitate Christ in all things, especially in reaching out and giving of myself to others, to forgive, to offer mercy? It will not happen just because we think it but we need to unite ourselves with Jesus’ mission to offer divine mercy to others. Relent, let God take control of our lives and we will be free to love as He loves,” said the archbishop.
