SARIKEI — On 25 August 2024, the Parish of St Anthony, Sarikei, in conjunction with the Chapel of St Francis of Assisi, Pakan, celebrated a momentous occasion in the life of the Church. Bishop Joseph Hii presided over the Mass, accompanied by the parish rector, Fr James Ting.

The event witnessed the Sacrament of Confirmation being conferred upon 75 parishioners, marking a significant step in their spiritual journey. Additionally, the Church welcomed six new Extraordinary Communion Ministers into service, while eight existing ministers renewed their commitment to this sacred duty.

In his homily, Bishop Joseph Hii offered a message of encouragement, reminding the newly confirmed and the ministers that no one is ever 100 percent ready to serve.

He emphasised that God works through our imperfections and makes us fully prepared for the roles He calls us to. “We may feel inadequate, but God makes us 100 percemt ready,” he said, offering reassurance and strength to those embarking on new spiritual responsibilities.

The ceremony was supported by the diligent work of Catechist Andrew Lima and faith teachers Michael Entalang, Anderson Sirai and Dianna Claster, whose guidance has been instrumental in preparing the candidates for this important day.

Approximately 1,000 parishioners gathered to participate in the Mass, reflecting the strong sense of community within the parish. The celebration concluded with a thanksgiving potluck, where attendees shared in the joy and fellowship of this special day.
