The ceremony, the first time organised by the society, was conducted by Fr Gerard Victor a Franciscan friar, witnessed by SSPCA committee members and staff.

“The 300 or so animals at the shelter will not be able to attend the pet blessing ceremony on Oct 6. We thank Fr Gerard for agreeing to conduct a special blessing today for the abandoned animals, many of which are healing from their wounds, and all of them waiting for find new, loving homes,” said SSPCA chairman Rebecca D’Cruz.

SSPCA president Dona Drury Wee also thanked Fr Gerard and his fellow brothers for agreeing to conduct the ceremony, adding that “their love for animals echoes our own and we are truly blessed to have their support for this event.”

Fr Gerard said: “The blessing of pets is part of the Franciscan tradition that is shared freely with creation and nature.

“The animals of God’s creation inhabit the skies, earth and sea. They share the fortunes of human existence and have part in human life.”

  1. Great to share this piece of news.

It was so disheartening to see those owners who do not care their pets properly such as dogs and cats and let them roam about in the highways and ran over by vehicles! More to say, some news even reported those selfish owners leave home for holidays and let them out to fend for themselves.
