St Joseph’s Cathedral Parish Sale & Fair 2012 a great success

KUCHING — The St Joseph’s Cathedral Parish Sale & Fair was held on Sunday 2 September this year with the objective to raise funds for the new St Joseph’s Pastoral Centre. Since 2004 the Parish Sale run for the past nine consecutive years. Apart from raising funds, the Parish Sale also promotes fellowship among the parishioners fostering a sense of belonging in the parish community. The pre-sales held outside the Cathedral for several weekends garnered a lot of support from parishioners attending Sunday Masses.

2 September saw a bustling with activities at the St Joseph’s Secondary School compound where 86 stall operators put up an overwhelming wide variety of food, cakes, pastries, drinks, ice cream, fruits and others for sale as early as 6.30 am. Two DJs enlivened the atmosphere as well as to emcee the event. In addition, the Empowered Youth entertained the crowd with a few worship dances through their flash mob.

It was a day when everyone was in festive mood. It was heart warming to see parishioners and the local community coming together for fellowship and fun and at the same time supporting the Parish Sale & Fair. By noon, the sale was over.

The overall total net proceeds for this year’s parish surpassed the RM336,000 mark, which was above the RM250,000 sales target. The success of the Sale was also due to the overwhelming response, generosity and support shown by the whole parish community. The organisers would like to express their thanks and appreciation to the parishioners and benefactors who have supported and contributed to the Sale. A Thanksgiving Mass was celebrated on 1 October at the Cathedral to thank God for his abundant blessings and to pray for the completion of the new Pastoral Centre building.
