KUCHING — EMPOWERED Ministry started holding Youth Alpha Series (YAS) virtually on 16 May 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and national movement restriction order. YAS is held once every two weeks on Saturday night, 8.30 pm – 10.00 pm and saw registration of 65 participants.
Youth Alpha is organised to provide an avenue for youths to discover and explore more about life, faith and meaning. It is a series of interactive sessions to discuss the Christian faith in an informal, fun and friendly environment. Youth Alpha answers life’s biggest questions such as “Is there more to life than this?”. Through Youth Alpha, youths are able to journey together as one community to discover more about life as Christians from various perspectives and opinions. It is about being open to know more about Christian faith and to share the journey towards a deeper relationship with God.
When participants log in at 8.30 pm, they will join in a fun interaction followed by prayer or time of worship. They will then break into groups which will remain unchanged until the end of the programme. Each session input comes in the form of videos and some questions to stir discussion on the topic. After watching the video, the participant will discuss on the questions posed within their groups where they are free to share their opinions and experience with their group members. The topics that have been covered so far are on Life—Is this it? Jesus: Who is He? Why did Jesus Die? How can I have Faith?
Despite meeting virtually, each group is starting to form closer bonds with one another and learn more about God in discovering their relationship with God and the meaning of a Christian life.
It is amazing to meet such high-spirited youth where some are joining from outside Kuching that are excited to explore more about God and to share their experiences and stories of God and Christian Faith with the community. May the youths continue to grow together as one community in the journey towards a deeper relationship with God and continue to keep the fire burning in their hearts.
