KUCHING — The Lions Club of Kuching City, together with the Ministry of GROWTH (Grow With The Handicapped), a St Joseph’s Cathedral-based ministry, celebrated their joint annual Christmas Party on Saturday, 7 December at St John & St Lucy Conference Hall in the ACCPC building.

The party, sponsored by the Lions Club of Kuching City with assistance from the Leo Club of S.M. Lodge, is an annual event to celebrate the joyous occasion with members of the disability community alongside their family members, carers and volunteers.

Every year, GROWTH members who suffer from various forms of disabilities look forward to this annual event with great anticipation. Their families are also eager as it is one of very few opportunities available for them to bring their special needs family members to a party.

There was Holy Mass before the party, celebrated by Fr Ramon Borja, SDB, at 10.30am at the Holy Family Chapel.

About 100 people attended the party, including around 30 members from GROWTH. Leo Club members led participants and invited guests to sing Christmas carols as Santa Claus made his entrance ringing his bell and distributed goodies to all present. Games involving members and family members were also played.

Fr Ramon Borja said grace before everyone was treated to a sumptuous lunch organised by the Lions Club of Kuching City.

After lunch, there were lucky draws and it was such a joy to see the happy faces of the winners.

Before the party ended, Past District Governor of Lions Club of Kuching City, Tan Soh Har distributed Christmas presents to all the members.

Besides GROWTH members, their families and committee members led by GROWTH President Josh John, there were 15 members from Lions Club of Kuching City. They were represented by Club President Roger Ting, Organising Chairman, Past President Vincent Tan, and 12 Leos from the Leo Club of SM Lodge.

GROWTH would like to thank all members, families, carers, volunteers, the Lions Club of Kuching City and Leo Club of S.M. Lodge for another successful party this year and wishes everyone a blessed and Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Josh John
