St Theresa’s Parish to hold annual fundraising on feast of its patron saint

SERIAN — The feast of St Theresa, the patron saint of St Theresa’s Parish will begin with a celebration on the evening of 28 September (Saturday) at the Church compound, and a Thanksgiving Mass at 8.30 am on 29 September (Sunday) at the Church.

The celebration is also an Annual Fundraising project of the St Theresa’s Parish Pastoral Council (STPPC) to raise funds for the maintenance and development of the main church and the churches in the Parish, and also for their physical and spiritual activities.

Archbishop Simon Poh will be the guest of honour to launch the celebration on the evening of 28 September.

Chairman of the STPPC Special Function Committee Dennis Edwin, announced that since the construction works of the Pan Borneo is still in progress, the Committee has decided that there will be no procession round the Serian Bazaar this year.

Parishioners, friends and the general public from far and near places are cordially invited to attend the auspicious celebration including the Thanksgiving Mass, Choir Competition, entertainment items, sales of food, drinks, handicrafts and many more.

Parishioners are also encouraged to form teams to participate and win attractive prizes for the Choir Competition. Due to time constraints, only 10 teams will be registered on a first-come-first-served basis. Entry forms with Rules and Regulations of the Competition are obtainable before 15 September from Dismas Julai (014-6917500), Sebastian Sangah (014-2212693) or Danny Jerry (011-19696387) at the church.

Dennis Sung, Chairman of the PPC cum Advisor of the Special Function Committee is urging all supporters, donors and well wishers to continue to support the celebration, as the Council is still in need of funds for its proposed projects. The PPC covers the churches in Serian and Simunjan districts.

He welcomes personal donations that can be placed inside the special donation envelopes available from St Theresa’s Parish Office or entrance of the church and to return them to the Parish Office.
