KUCHING —On 17 May, the Personal Child Safety Awareness (PCSA) Team organised a half day talk at the St Joseph’s Parish Centre. A total of 24 children and 28 parents and friends attended the programmes separately.
Children were taught skills and ways to protect themselves from possible sexual abuses. They were taught how to identify safe and unsafe touches and to exercise their rights. They were made familiar with the parts of their body for good reasons. On the other hand, the parents were made aware of what child abuse constitute, children’s rights and safety rules.
Apparently the parents who attended the talk found it invaluable. They suggested more seminars of the same be accorded to benefit other children, parents and friends alike.
The PCSA is a programme manned by volunteers to empower children so that they can protect themselves from sexual abuse and violations of their rights. It is a learning ground about ways of preventing sexual abuse and not solving problems.
