Kuching Carmel elects new Council

KUCHING — On 13 January 2025, the Carmelite Sisters of Kuching Carmel held their new council election after a morning of adoration of the Holy Eucharist and exhortation by Archbishop Simon Poh.

The elections of Prioress and Councillors at the Monastery of the Immaculate Heart of Mary take place every three years. The following were elected for the term 2025-2028.

Prioress: Sr Marie Evelyn of the Mother of Sorrows
1st Councillor: Sr Dominica of the Blessed Trinity
2nd Councillor: Sr Margaret of St Joseph
3rd Councillor: Sr Karen Emmanuel of Jesus on the Cross

In the Constitutions of the Carmelite Sisters, the Mother Prioress is a major superior and the Councillors are to assist her in a spirit of unity.
