SIBU — At St Teresa Oratory on Tuesday morning (7.00 am) 26 November 2024, Fr Edward Raymond celebrated the Feast of Christ the King, the last week of the liturgical year, with more than 170 students, teachers and the principal of Hua Hin English Primary School, together with brothers and sisters of the Neocatechumenal Way community.
St Teresa Oratory has recently been re-named by the Bishop of Sibu, Bishop Joseph Hii, to replace the name of the old St Teresa Church, and also to avoid confusion with the Church of St Teresa, which is situated about 300m from the Oratory.
Bishop Joseph Hii explained that “an Oratory is a small place for prayer and worship, dedicated to a small community.” Brothers and sisters of the Neocatechumenal Way community serve as its caretaker, with a spiritual director currently being Fr Edward Raymond, who resides at the priests’ house situated just next to the Oratory.
The Oratory is also situated next to a kindergarten and Hua Hin English Primary School.
There is Daily Mass at St Teresa Oratory at 7.00 am, from Monday to Friday. Brothers and sisters of Neocatechumenal Way gather at the Oratory on a weekly basis, to celebrate the Word, every Tuesday and Wednesday evening. The community celebrates Sunset Mass every Saturday. They also gather for monthly convivence at the Oratory.
Fr Edward Raymond is a missionary priest from Sabah, who had walked the Neocatechumenal Way for 40 years. He is currently an assistant to the rector of Sacred Heart Cathedral, assisting him in matters concerning the Sacred Heart Cathedral. He is also specially assigned to take care of the Neocatechumenal Way community of Sibu. On top of this, his ministry in Sibu includes apostolate groups and school ministry. This year also marks his 25 years as a priest. He served many years as a parish rector in Sabah. He is on his Mission, a charism of the Neocatechumenal Way.
