IPOH — Twenty four nursing students attending the Fatimah Hospital Nursing School in Ipoh were given a 3-day Billings Ovulation Method (BOM) Teacher Training on 24-26 March. Three of the staff including the Principal Tutor also attended together with two other nurses from outside the school. The programme was conducted by Dr LL Chan, National President of Natural Fertility Awareness Service of Malaysia (NFASM), assisted by Assistant Secretary, Christine Ng and two other teachers, Lily Tan and Santhana Mary from Penang.
The nurses were from various racial and religious background. They were delighted to learn of BOM. Many expressed their surprise as to why they had not been given the information earlier. In fact, two of them in the group were themselves still using the out-dated rhythm method and basal body temperature method. They said they will start observation and change to using the BOM which gives much more information on what is happening in their bodies.
At the end of the Training Programme much to the amazement of the audience, Dr Chan presented eight of his case studies on how the BOM had been useful in helping women detect disorders through the use of the BOM observation and charting.
