SIBU (30 July) — Residents of Sibu had experienced more than two weeks of hot and humid weather and heat wave.
Tonight, more than 2,000 parishioners who gathered for the 39th Anniversary Dedication Mass of Sacred Heart Cathedral witnessed a heavy downpour of rain, a sign of abundant blessings, just as Bishop Joseph Hii prepared himself to begin the celebration of the Eucharist.
Together with him celebrating the Mass were Msgr Michael Lee, Rector Fr Philip Hu and his assistant priests, Capuchin Fr Raphael and Fr Edward Raymond, and the blessed people of God from Sibu town.
In his homily, Bishop Joseph Hii gave special thanks for three pioneering lay leaders who were instrumental in the building of the Sacred Heart Church in 1985. They were the Parish Council Chairman, Sir William Kiew Mee Teck, the Treasurer, Sir Paul Lee Kung Seng and the building Committee Chairman, Dato Robert Lau Hoi Chew.
“They must be smiling from Heaven, seeing us gathered here tonight to worship in spirit and in truth in this temple of God.”
Bishop Joseph Hii also reminded all that God wants us to encounter Him in our lives and to worship Him in spirit and in truth. “We are the temple of the Holy Spirit”.
